Story

Origins and Founding (1984)

  • In 1984, the founder and chairman of Amara Raja, Dr Ramachandra N Galla, returned from the USA to usher development in his homeland at Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh.

  • He believed in the underlying responsibility of entrepreneurs in empowering people and advancing social goals.

  • The first manufacturing facility and office were established in a remote village Karakambadi, 12 km from the holy town of Tirupati, under the name of Amara Raja Power Systems Ltd.

  • The company sold batteries for railways (1993), before going public in 1991 through an Initial Public Offering (IPO).

  • In 2000, Amaron Automotive Batteries is launched. (1)

  • In 2001, the group opened its automotive battery plant.

  • They expanded to providing bicycle batteries in 2008, and launched variations of Amaron batteries for industrial usage.

  • Forbes Magazine featured the group as Asia's "Top Under a Billion" in 2010, and they now command a global presence in 50+ countries spanning a wide range of industries.
